About the Surgery

Piles Surgery in Lucknow, India | Charak Hospital

Overview

Piles, also called hemorrhoids, are enlarged veins that may be found externally or internally (within the rectum). Surgery might be an option to remove them, depending on their nature and grade.

Without treatment, the majority of hemorrhoidal flare-ups resolve within two weeks. According to the (ASCRC) American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, having a high-fiber diet and drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water daily can help lower and control the symptoms by promoting softer and more frequent bowel movements.

Stool softeners may also be required in some circumstances to decrease straining during bowel movements, as straining might aggravate your hemorrhoidal condition.

The ASCRS believes that surgery is required in less than 10% of hemorrhoid cases, however, it may be necessary in some situations when external or prolapsed hemorrhoids become too irritating, or infectious, or if there are complications.

Types of Surgery in Piles (Hemorrhoids)

Hemorrhoid surgeries are classified into two types: easy, outpatient, and less intrusive treatments that can be performed without anesthesia, and more difficult, inpatient surgeries.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms and whether you have complications, your doctor will decide whether surgery is necessary and what type of operation is best for you.

The severity of hemorrhoids is categorized into grades as follows:

Grade 1: No prolapse.
Grade 2: prolapse that resolves on its own.
Grade 3: prolapse that requires manual intervention.
Grade 4: prolapse that produces pain and cannot be pushed in on its own.

Treatment of Piles

A physical examination and a proctoscopy are used to diagnose piles. Early on, piles clear up on their own and don't require hospitalization. However, many people's pain and itching can be significantly reduced with the right treatment. The available therapeutic choices are as follows:

Based on the diagnosis, the doctor will decide if you require home therapy or more care. Changes in nutrition and lifestyle, such as frequent exercise, drinking enough of water, and eating a high-fiber diet, help alleviate symptoms.

Surgery is used for really large heaps. Surgery is typically utilized when conservative management or treatment proves to be unsuccessful. Surgery can occasionally be done as an outpatient procedure, in which case the patient goes home after the treatment.

Stapling Surgery: Stapling is used to treat hemorrhoids that have ruptured. The prolapsed hemorrhoid inside your rectum is secured with a surgical staple, which also stops the blood supply to the tissue, causing it to shrivel and absorb. Comparatively speaking, a stapling surgery is less unpleasant and requires less recovery time than a hemorrhoidectomy. Research shows that after 4 weeks, those who had this surgery had fewer unhealed wounds and took less time to have a bowel movement.

Laser Surgery: Often referred to as laser therapy, laser surgery is a medical process that has several advantages over traditional surgery. Compared to other methods of piles surgery, laser surgery effectively heals hemorrhoids, improves symptoms, and reduces post-operative pain.

Laser Piles Surgery Benefits

Minimal Blood Loss: During any surgery, blood loss is one of the most important factors to consider.
Minimal Pain: Laser cutting often causes less pain than knife incisions do.
The operation region heals more quickly when there is less blood loss, a decreased risk of infection, and partially sealed tissues following surgery.
Minimal chance of harming other tissues: There is very little chance of harming other tissues around the piles or in the sphincter muscles if the piles are operated on by a qualified laser surgeon.

Delaying treatment may lead to:

  • Severe Pain When Sitting
  • Prolonged Bleeding in the Stool
  • Hemorrhoids that prolapse
  • Contamination/Infection
